Gunmetal vs matte black tapware: how to choose
Two of the most requested dark finishes in our showroom are matte black and gunmetal (sometimes labelled brushed carbon or similar). They are not interchangeable on a screen - and often not interchangeable between brands.
How they typically read
- Matte black - flatter, deeper black; strong contrast on pale tiles; can emphasise fingerprints or residue if cleaned poorly.
- Gunmetal / brushed carbon - softer, often cooler or slightly brown-grey depending on the brand; hides minor marks better; pairs nicely with concrete looks and mid-tone tiles.
Facts vs taste
Fact: finish names are manufacturer-specific; always compare physical samples.
Taste: cool grey tiles often favour gunmetal; bright white gloss often favours a true matte black for contrast.

Gold Coast and north-facing Brisbane rooms: bring tile samples - sunlight shifts gunmetal more than you expect.
